Forgotten bands that changed Polish music. Stress: Pioneers of Polish Hard-Rock and Their Indestructible Legacy

Today we will focus on the band Stress, a precursor of Polish hard rock. The band was founded in 1971 in Poznań by Mariusz Rybicki, Henryk Tomczak and Janusz Maślak. Initially, they performed songs from the following repertoire: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix. They created such songs as: „Ciężką drogą”, „Dwa lata świetlne”, „Wśród krzyży z ramionami”, Konfiteor” oraz „Granica życia”.  And many other great songs. After its initial years of activity, Stress has gained a reputation for its unique sound and energetic live performances. As their style evolved, they began to introduce psychedelic and progressive elements into their music, which further distinguished them from other Polish bands of the period. Over the years, the band experienced several line-up changes, but founders Mariusz Rybicki, Henryk Tomczak and Janusz Maślak remained the core of the group, which ensured the continuity of their artistic message. Their concerts have always attracted large crowds of fans, which proves their constant influence on the Polish rock scene. Unfortunately, like many bands from that time, Strss also encountered many challenges along the way, including problems with censorship and restrictions resulting from the political climate of Poland at that time. Despite this, their music has never lost its relevance, and their songs continue to inspire new generations of musicians and fans. After the band's breakup, Henryk Tomczak founded other legendary bands such as Turbo and Non Iron. But that's for another article about these great bands. Polish music should be world music, but something went wrong, unfortunately. Stress's legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans, even though they did not achieve the global success that some believed was within their reach.
